LIGHT RAIL FOR THE ST. LOUIS REGION
Both the City of St. Louis and St. Louis County are taking the next steps to expand the region’s MetroLink system. Light rail transit offers faster travel times and more reliable and frequent service compared to traditional bus lines.
CITY OF ST. LOUIS
The City of St. Louis is revisiting the 2018 Locally Preferred Alternative and modifying it to travel completely along Jefferson Avenue. Click here to learn more about the Jefferson Alignment.
ST. LOUIS COUNTY
St. Louis County is studying several options for extending light rail from the City of St. Louis into North County. Click here to learn more about the North STL County Community Connector.
Project Goals
- Provide more choice to people with limited transportation options
- Invest in historically underserved neighborhoods
ON-STREET LIGHT RAIL WOULD TRANSFORM ST. LOUIS
The light rail technology being studied for the Northside-Southside line is a bit different from our current MetroLink system, which is primarily in former freight lines. Instead, this study is considering a modern in-street light rail system.
- Minimize impacts to adjacent properties
- Operate in a dedicated lane, separated by curb to enhance safety and train travel times
- Include pedestrian enhancements and level boarding at stations
